Virginia Vineyards Worth a VisitOne of our favorite ways to pass a Saturday afternoon in autumn… or any afternoon in any season… is to visit a local vineyard. With nearly 100 vineyards in Northern Virginia, and over 250 across the state, our cups runneth over, as they say. Any oenophile will be pleased with the variety of wine Virginia offers, and any nature lover will appreciate the beautiful settings of the vineyards throughout the seasons, particularly as the leaves change in the coming months. Here, we have listed just a few of the vineyards in Northern Virginia.
Paradise Springs Winery
What we love most about this vineyard is the back patio, which is cozy yet spacious, with tables just big enough for a bottle of wine, some glasses and a cheese platter, perfect for socializing. There is ample seating around the property, and inside the rustic winery. If you swing by on a weekend, you are likely to enjoy music from a popular local band, and many more events are hosted each month by the vineyard.
This one’s a little farther from the Beltway, but well worth the drive for the unbeatable views and bucolic surroundings. While you’re in Bluemont, make sure to stroll one of the historic villages in the area, or hike part of the Appalachian Trail, which has several entry points nearby. If you’re a food truck fan, you don’t want to miss Food Truck Friday, featuring a different food truck every week.
Naked Mountain Winery
Located in the scenic foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, with sweeping views of the countryside, Naked Mountain Winery is popular with locals for more than just its tasty wines. Take in the changing leaves from its generous back patio or rolling hills with a bottle of wine and picnic blanket, or warm up in the chalet-style tasting room right by the grand fireplace.
With a focus on crafting the perfect wine and mountain views for miles, Delaplane simply cannot be missed. Go here for a peaceful afternoon, as they do not allow large groups or limousines. We also love that Delaplane is close to several pick-your-own farms so you can enjoy a completely pastoral day.
A true oasis in Northern Virginia, Linden Vineyards places a high importance on appreciating the terroir and offering a quiet, restrained atmosphere for its guests. This vineyard is rare in that it doesn’t host events or allow parties, so be sure to check the site for restrictions before you visit. Come here for an insightful wine tasting and a few hours of solitude.
