The Anthem

The opening of The Wharf along Washington DC’s Southeast waterfront has everyone buzzing. The mile-long development will be a hub for locals and tourists alike, with three hotels and two residential buildings. There will be six piers, a water taxi service, three music venues, 10 acres of green space, and shops, pubs, distilleries, and restaurants galore. Today, we are going to delve into one of the music venues, The Anthem, which is co-owned by one of the founders of D.C. icon the 9:30 Club.

The Anthem has capacity for 6,000 concertgoers, but can be retrofitted to host crowds as small 2,500. With two rows of balconies and a large floor space, this venue looks a bit like an industrial opera house, a symphony house built for rockers. The Anthem isn’t just a concert venue, it’s a place for music lovers to escape for awhile, to get lost exploring the building, and gazing across the waterfront from the balcony, pondering, creating, reminiscing. This is also a place to indulge with seven bars and marvelous food aplenty.

The beloved Foo Fighters open the venue with a show on October 12, and the upcoming lineup at The Anthem is just as exciting as one of their performances. Here are just some of the artists we are excited about:

10/15: Trombone Shorty
10/16: Phoenix
10/27: The Head and the Heart
11/02: Shins
11/08: Grizzly Bear
