Historic Halloween

Halloween, that yearly ritual of dressing up in costumes and knocking on doors for candy, is upon us. While trick-or-treating in the neighborhood is all good and fun, why not mix it up a bit this year by adding in a dose of history?

Mount Vernon, the hallowed home of George & Martha Washington, is once again opening its gates for Halloween fun and activities. On October 31, from 3:30pm-6:30pm, Mount Vernon will host a spook-tacular evening for folks of all ages! Guests will be able to participate in such Halloween classics as a wagon ride, a children’s costume parade, trick-or-treating and creating a boo-tiful Halloween craft.

In addition, there will be some uniquely revolutionary era activities. Take part in 18th century dancing in the upper garden, or in a historic chocolate-making demonstration & tasting. Watch wool carding, spinning and fish net making. You won’t want to miss the special scavenger hunt they have planned!

Don’t forget your breeches and petticoat - there will be prizes given out for the best George and Martha Washington costumes!
