After a long, grey winter, farmers’ markets are back to brighten weekend mornings. While some markets stay open throughout winter, most shutter down, and will reopen for the season in May. Not much beats strolling through a farmers’ market in the early morning sunshine, sipping a freshly roasted coffee, listening to the idle chatter of songbirds, taking in the goodness of all the beautiful fresh produce at every stall. It used to be that you had to drive far out of the city to find a farmers’ market or a co-op, but with the growing trend of shopping local, farmers’ markets can be found in every suburb in the Washington, DC area. An idyllic, restful break from urban life to procure crunchy baguettes, plump tomatoes, juicy berries, without having to leave the city. Here is a list of our favorite local farmers’ markets:
