Holiday MarketsYou’ve hung the ornaments and lights on your freshly cut evergreen tree, and placed a star on top, but aren’t sure how to fill the space underneath. This week, we are covering some local holiday markets where you can find beautiful and unique gifts for your loved ones, while supporting local artisans, enjoying the frosty air, and perhaps even some mulled wine… just to keep your toes warm of course.
Downtown Holiday Market
Noon - 8pm, daily through December 23
This massive holiday market is something of a DC tradition, now in its 12th year. The market features 60 artisans, crafters and purveyors of ethically produced goods each day, selling their wares, such as jewelry, pottery, textiles and other nik naks. The exhibitors rotate daily, so visiting again and again will feel like a new experience each time! In addition, there will be seasonal entertainment and treats. The market is located in front of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery, so you can nip inside to warm up and take in some of the masterpieces on display.
Alexandria Holiday Market
11am - 7pm, weekends
Visit the Carlyle District of Alexandria to experience this wonderful open-air holiday market. The Alexandria Holiday Market is unique thanks to its Children’s Corner. Once the little ones have had enough of visiting the myriad of vendors selling artisan wares and traditional holiday foods and drinks, take them over the Children’s Corner where they can paint their own ornament, learn about the traditions behind Christmas, get their faces painted and even meet Santa!
Rosslyn Holiday Market
December 9, 3 - 8pm and December 10, 8am - 3pm
This Friday and Saturday only, the Rosslyn Holiday Market packs a lot of holiday punch into a short period of time! In addition to the crafters and artisans, the hot chocolate and the mulled wine, the twinkle lights and the tinsel, this holiday market has a few surprises thrown in. This truly one-of-a-kind holiday market is jam packed with activities...visit the Pub in the Park, gather around the bonfire, dance to 80’s music, build a gingerbread house, or run in the Great Chocolate Race!
