Chocolate BeerIt seems a new brewery opens nearly every week in Northern Virginia, and yet there is still space on the market for more, as they each have a distinct character that appeals to a broad array of beer drinkers. People clamor for breweries, and it’s really no surprise, as they offer a laid-back atmosphere to wile away an afternoon or evening, a unique approach to brewing beer, delicious food, and usually a fun twist of some sort! With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, we are going to highlight some local craft breweries that offer chocolate-inspired beers.
Heroic Aleworks - Woodbridge, VA
Max Nix English Port
This port beer features “caramel, chocolate and coffee notes,” which sounds like a combination of the choicest chocolates from a Valentine’s gift box. The owners have styled the brewery to be a “geek culture epicenter,” with games on hand (or bring your own!), a free arcade and ‘geek trivia’ nights. Each beer is represented by a hero or villain, and there will be a continuing plot and line of comic books.
Caboose Brewing - Vienna, VA
Chocolate Milk Stout
Caboose Brewing’s Chocolate Milk Stout has a “velvety feel” with a “dry roasted cocoa finish.” Caboose aims to provide a community atmosphere for its patrons, the local go-to for good beer, good food, good company. Crooked Run Brewing - Leesburg, VA
The Biscotti Stout has a subtle almond and hazelnut flavor that will feel like a liquid dessert. Crooked Run was started by two beer-loving brothers who envisioned serving beer in a relaxed, low-key setting. Their vision and beer have been wildly popular and award-winning, leading to a second location in Sterling and the distribution of their beer throughout Northern Virginia this year.
Port City Brewing - Alexandria, VA
Port City Porter
Port City Porter offers bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee notes that promise to be robust yet smooth and refreshing to the palate. Port City has long been a favorite in the Northern Virginia area for its delicious beers, industrial-feel brewery and the many events it hosts - everything from weekly trivia to food truck nights to BeerYoga to pub crawls.
