Bike to Work Day 2017

On Friday, May 19, 2017, the Washington DC metropolitan area will celebrate Bike to Work Day, promoting cycling as a healthy, fun and green way to travel to work. The first national Bike to Work Day was held in 1956, when members of The League of American Bicyclists decided to cycle to work during National Bike Month. In the DC area, Bike to Work day began in 2001 with a few hundred cyclists, and has steadily grown since, with over 17,500 participants in 2016! How incredible is it to be able to travel to work on a bike path that was a railroad 100 years ago?

On Bike to Work Day, there will be over 85 pit stop events in DC, VA and MD, where cyclists can stop for food, drink and fun prizes on their morning commute, as well as a few pit stop events during the evening commute. We’ve gathered information on the pit stop events nearest all the Dwel communities here!
